This week's fannish5
What 5 fannish things are you thankful for?

1. The good friends I made. People whom I probably would not otherwise have met and without whom my life would be less rich and enjoyable.

2. The kindness and helpfulness of people who are willing to share things with other fans, and who expect nothing in return.

3. Slash appearing on the Internet so that I could find it, rather than go through my entire life thinking I was weird because of my fantasies about two male characters being together.

4. The huge diversity of talent and creativity that is around to produce and maintain stories, zines, songvids, website, archives, communities, artwork, and all other fandom goodies.

5. For keeping me sane when my disability got to the stage where I had to take medical retirement.

Couldn't agree more with your items 1 to 4.

My life would be a lot poorer if I hadn't stumbled upon slash and fandom in general. And what wonderful friends I've found!

It's good to remember all the positive and great things that fandom has done for us, because all too often when something goes wrong and something nasty happens, it's easy to forget the good.

Except for the fifth § that, fortunately and until now, doesn't concern me, I could have written exactly the same words.

It is good to know that so many of us see fandom in the same way.
aingeal8c From: aingeal8c Date: 26th November 2005 13:36 (UTC) (Link)
Reasons 1-4 are exactly what I'm thankful for, only you said it much better than I could.
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 26th November 2005 13:58 (UTC) (Link)
Ah, thank you. I think it's wonderful that so many of us see the same things and get the same feelings about what it does for us.

Yes a feeling of you're not alone in thinking what you do. And we all like that.

Of course not having comment notifications get through is causing me to feel alone.

Me too! I keep having to trawl through my own posts and think 'is that the same number of comments as the last time I looked'? Or try to remember where I posted to and toddle off there to see if the person has said something I need to reply to. It's very vexing.

Do you have this link: Recent Comments? It's somewhat helpful, as it shows you the most recent comments left in your journal or any community that you own/have moderator status on. It doesn't tell you of any comments left in your posts on other people's LJs but it's something.

Wow I got the notification for this comment!

True. I click to read them just be sure I haven't missed one.

It is. I missed a comment for my poll a few days ago. And I'm trying to limit where I post to things like my f-list so it's easier to check.
I hope they get the problem fixed soon.

Thanks for that link I'll remember to check there it looks very useful. At least it will go some way to quelling the problem.

Well said! I think you hit the nail on the head.
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 26th November 2005 13:59 (UTC) (Link)
Thank you, kindly.

(I tell you something else I'll be thankful for - the day LJ gets it's act together following this move and I get all of my comments, not just some of them *g*).
day221b From: day221b Date: 26th November 2005 14:39 (UTC) (Link)
Understood. ; ) ... and I definitely sympathize with you here.
gilda_elise From: gilda_elise Date: 26th November 2005 14:54 (UTC) (Link)
Very well said! I think you've hit all the high points. I never imagined having friends from all over the country, much less the world. :-)

(I tell you something else I'll be thankful for - the day LJ gets it's act together following this move and I get all of my comments, not just some of them *g*).

And as for this, I'm not getting any of them. So, I'm having to go back through days of posts to make sure I catch anything I need to answer. I did edit my account to also get anything I post, so maybe that will help.
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 26th November 2005 15:41 (UTC) (Link)
Thank you, Gilda. No, I certainly never imagined having friends all over the world - it really is something to be thankful for.

And as for this, I'm not getting any of them.

Really? Oh, heck, that's even worse. Is your ISP one of those that is 'known' to be causing problems? Mine isn't, which really makes me wonder what's going on.
gilda_elise From: gilda_elise Date: 26th November 2005 18:01 (UTC) (Link)
You may have broken the jinx! This message actually came through. :-)

I know this has been said before, but your list really hits the nail on the head. #5 I've never had a disability problem. But fandom helped me get through a severe depression in high school. : )
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 26th November 2005 15:57 (UTC) (Link)
I'm just so glad that so many of my friends share these things to be thankful for.

I'd say that depression is a disability really, just not one you can necessary see. I'm sorry that you went through such a bad time, but glad that fandom helped see you through it.

I can only echo what you and everyone else has said - and concur with them. I've had such fun since I discovered slash, and it has only enriched my life with good friends, good fun and fabulous fic and art/icons, that I couldnt ever regret it.

*hugs*

Well said, Zoe. I think it's wonderful that so many of us are thankful for the same things and realise just how enriched our life has become through the discovery of fandom.

::Hugs::

If it wasn't for fandom where would some of us be?

It's made me a lot happier and have more fun than I've had in years and has given me one of the best friends EVER!
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 27th November 2005 11:48 (UTC) (Link)
Indeed. I ask myself that question nearly every day.

It's made so many of us so happy and brings some wonderful, very dear friends.
lizamanynames From: lizamanynames Date: 27th November 2005 15:04 (UTC) (Link)
I pretty much can only say a big hearty AMEN! to all of the above.
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 27th November 2005 15:39 (UTC) (Link)
Oh, guess what? Another comment I didn't receive a notification for!!! The 'Recent Comments' 'toy' has become my new best friend at the moment (not that this helps with comments that people leave to your comments in other journals, but at least it helps in your own).

I'm glad that you also agree.
