Day 17 - Favourite mini series.

This was one of the really hard questions partly because I'm not certain what constitutes a 'mini-series' and Googling gave me several different answers. I looked through our DVD cabinets and found nothing that really fitted.

So in the end I've gone with something that probably strictly speaking isn't a mini-series. However, it is the best I could come up with. It is called a 'mini soap opera' and soap operas, we know, run for years and years and even decades, so I felt this could fit. And it did only have twelve episodes and they are incredibly short (c. five minutes each), so definitely a mini soap opera, thus I feel it fits the mini-series *g*

It's Acorn Antiques.

Acorn Antiques started out as short weekly slots in Victoria Woods's Victoria Woods As Seen On TV, it then went on to be a West End musical. Basically it is a parody on soap operas.

Starring Celia Imrie, Victoria Wood, Duncan Preston and Julie Walters it's basic premise is: the lives and loves of the staff of an antiques shop in a fictional English town called Manchesterford. This doesn't really do justice to the  ambitious and implausible storylines, which lampooned the staples of soap operas: love triangles, amnesiacs, sudden deaths and siblings reunited.

It really is hilarious and the acting is great, way OTT most of the time, but superbly done.
