Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show.

It's another of the 'I don't actually have one' questions. I have nothing in my DVD cabinet that I'm in away 'ashamed off', nothing I won't admit to watching, so a tad difficult.

However, we'll go with a show for very young children: Tiny Plants: Bing and Bong.

It's something we discovered several years ago, purely by change, on ITV when we were channel hopping at tea time. We watched it, we enjoyed it, we went on watching it and J even bought me a DVD of it.

Basically Bing and Bong, two white fluffy creatures, go on adventures in the Tiny Universe. Bing is the bigger one and Bong his smaller six-legged sidekick and the impression is Bong is the elder, whereas Bing seems quite young. They travel on a sofa to explore the mysteries of light and colour animation, sound and the water cycle.

It was a great little show, thoroughly enjoyable and of course fluffy creatures . . .

I guess given we don't have children, but watched, enjoyed, bought a DVD, this will qualify as 'guilty pleasure show'. After all, isn't one of the reasons people have children an excuse for them to watch children's TV without feeling guilty? *Grins*

*laughs* That one really looks like a cute show *smiles*

But yes, I can understand the appeal. As there are no kids around, I, too, need to face the fact that I like some kid' shows and movies. But, as I said in my own post, I know no shame, so... *laughs*

It was.

*Grins* I'm glad you can understand the appeal. Indeed and there shouldn't be any shame.

Never heard of this one before though admittedly my knowledge of kids tv is based on whether there are books to accompany the series *g*. It's kind of cute but I don't think I could sit through many eps!

Honestly, a lot of tv for younger kids freaks me out a little - the animation used on Big Barn Farm to make the real animals 'talk' certainly does.

I don't remember kids tv in the early 80s being as weird as it is now with the critters who don't speak but just make weird noises. Though I suppose Bill & Ben, which was before my time, was mainly weird noises wasn't it?

I think there are books, well according the the B&B website there are.

I know what you mean.

Bill & Ben was indeed mostly noises; they did say some things.

Children's TV has changed beyond recognition.

*goes to look* Oh, so there are. Definitely not something I've ever seen though. It's weird the shows that take off with books while other equally popular shows don't.

It really has. I often think you have to be either 2 yrs old or smoking really really good drugs to properly appreciate a lot of it now. I have quite the collection of dvds of shows from when I was younger; there's a lot to be said for 'guilty pleasure' shows I think :)

Indeed it is odd, you just never know what'll get books and what won't.

*Grins* That just about sums it up! Some kids shows are great.

I've never heard of this show, but it looks cute and like a great choice for a guilty pleasure show ;)

It is cute and I'm glad you think it's a god choice.

Your icon is cute too!

*giggles* Kids' shows are great fun. Some of them have me watching while the kids go and play something else!! So yes, right there with you ;) You know yesterday when I looked at your last entry I was thinking "oh yikes, what an earth would I pick for 'guilty pleasure show'?", you've done a good job there m'dear. ;) *still doesn't know what she would pick*

Bing and Bong are so cute! (Not to mention they have the most awesome steampunk looking contraptions on their home, me likey! *g*)
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 17th June 2010 11:37 (UTC) (Link)
*Giggles* I can picture you watching with the wee ones doing something else. It's a tough meme in parts, this one. Fun to do, but tough.

They really are. *Grins* They certainly do have some great contraptions - glad you likey.

I remember stumbling across this one when channel hopping as well.

It is/was such a sweet show and Bing and Bong very cute.

Guilty pleasure? Why not ;-)

That is adorable. I may go and find a few more of those. I wish cartoons here were so innocent and cute.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Happy hunting.

That sums it up very well.

Hee. I know what you mean- I still watch kids' shows, and the youngest person in our house is soon turning 22. But some of them are just so well written that even we 'old' people can enjoy them!
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 17th June 2010 11:36 (UTC) (Link)
Glad you know what I mean.

They certainly are! Some are far better than adult stuff.
bramblyhedge From: bramblyhedge Date: 17th June 2010 10:31 (UTC) (Link)
Goodness, that is soooooooooo adorable! I'll definitely have to watch some more. Kids shows are great. :)
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 17th June 2010 11:25 (UTC) (Link)
Isn't it just?

I'm so glad you liked it - oh, they often are!
