Fiction. Sometimes Second Best Will Do (Ducky/Fornell)
TITLE: Sometimes Second Best Will Do
AUTHOR: Ashleigh Anpilova
FANDOM: NCIS
PAIRINGS: Donald 'Ducky' Mallard/Tobias C. Fornell. Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Donald 'Ducky' Mallard (Past) Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Tobias C. Fornell (Unrequited)
GENRE: Slash
SUMMARY: After Gibbs's death, Fornell goes to see Ducky.
RATING: PG-13
WORD COUNT: 1,302
WARNINGS: Major character death.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: I blame slash4femme for this. I had never considered this pairing before and then I came across her Ducky/Fornell story. That, combined with my plot bunny, who some of you are familiar with, who happens to be on a death story kick, resulted in this story. Written for older_not_dead Promptathon #03 using the prompt 'Sharing'.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own these characters, nor am I making any money from them. I merely borrow them from time to time.

You exhaust me.

You must be part gas molecule - I've never seen anyone produce as much, as often and as consistently good as you do. I'm tired just reading you stuff, can't even imagine how much time and energy it takes to do it.

Thanks again for another great read. It's a little sad, but life seldoms goes on the way we plan and I do believe that Ducky is a survivor.

Ta!

Re: You exhaust me.

*Blushes* Thank you for your comment, it is very much appreciated.

Well, as you know I don't work and really I can't do much; going out is difficult, although we finally seem to have found a car that I can travel in for more than two miles without suffering. Thus, I have a lot of free time on my hands. And I've always written quickly, fiction of non-fiction.

Thank you very much. My bunny is on a death-fic kick at the moment *Eyes him*

Thank you.

Re: You exhaust me.

I know, but still. I'm in the same boat and don't come close to your output! I bow to you, my Queen.

I seem to be struck lately with crosses(there's a joke about having a cross to bear, but I'm not going to be the one to make it). This weekend I did a MFU/Are You Being Served and a MFU/M*A*S*H - while still working on the NCIS cross. Funny how we get on kicks - hadn't even realized it until a couple of minutes ago.

Anyhow, I, for one, am grateful for your speedy fingers and fetile mind (must come from all those bon bons we eat as we sit around...sorry, I'm still a little annoyed by that comment).

Re: You exhaust me.

Aww, thank you.

*Rolls eyes* *Chuckles* Wow, that's quite a lot of crossovers. It is indeed funny how that works out. MFU/Are You Being Served? Intriguing!

Thank you. Ah, yes, indeed. It must. I'm not surprised, to be honest! It was somewhat annoying to say the least.

Re: You exhaust me.

You replied to me about first "/" and I can't find your post anywhere LJ said it was, so I'm going to respond here. For us, it was K/S that was our breaking grounds and that was closely followed by Starsky/Hutch - which was sort of our PR over here. Well,a fluffy version of PR - Doyle was way hotter than Starsky.

It's funny just how many people not only don't like "/", but feel it's their moral obligation to ban it from society. I'm not sure why some feel so strongly when all they have to do is walk away and ignore it. It's been around for a long time - look at Sapphro's poety. This is nothing new, folks, so build a bridge and get over it while the rest of us happily wallow.

Yea, I'm not sure what started the crossover kick - that's not my usual style. I did read a BtVS/MFU cross - why do they always want to make Illya a vampire...although he would look pretty with Spike... I digress, it must be Monday.

The AYBS cross should be up on fanfiction - would you like a link?

Re: You exhaust me.

It's the LJ comment eating monster.

I was talking generally, not between our two countries. I know K/S had the very first slash story, but it was originally a gen fandom. Whereas Pros was the first slash fandom that gradually got a few gen stories.

Ah S&H that was my very first fandom - both in terms of seeing the show initially and 'slashing' them long, long, long before I knew such a thing existed when I thought I was weird and strange (which I know I am but . . . *g*) and when I finally discovered the world of fandom ten years ago.

I know. But then I never understand the attitude of folk who go out of their way to read something they hate just so they can bash the author!

Interesting you should mention vampires . . . adriannacoylho has a little series (not yet finished - *eyes Adrianna*) where Ducky is a vampire.

Of course you post to FF, don't you? I never go there - unless there is something specific. I can never seem to find anything I want. So yes, please.

Here you go for the link -

You're right, of course, about PR being "/" first and gen later. In fact, it was pretty darned hard to find anything gen. Just the opposite in ST, although I remember a great little zine called 'R & R' which was an adult zine. Got a real education over there, esprecially when they intro'd some of the first K/S - surprisingly enough it was McCoy/Spock that I first read...

Ducky as a vampire, given the right circumstances, it could work. I read one recently in which Ducky and Abby were vampires. With Abby, that's sort of a given though *grin*

Re: You exhaust me.

Thank you. That's a fun story - very good voices!

It certainly was. Even today there's not a huge amount of gen. But interestingly a smidgen of het is starting to creep in. And Pros was one example of someone writing to fit the 'market' rather than writing what they wanted to. I know at least one writer who wrote B/D because it was 'the' pairing, but really wanted to write Bodie/Murphy. And also Pros seems to have a goodly number of folk who actively dislike one half (often Doyle) but write him anyway because it really is a one pairing fandom (like MFU and S&H). I know of a few folk who liked McCoy/Spock.

This worked well. Ah, yes, Abby . . .

Re: You exhaust me.

Glad to hear you liked the story - I blame our diector for giving me the AYBS? script on Friday for another quick read through re: props. Some fires just don't need fanning. Ho, ho, ho, little boy...

Again, why would anyone write a story if you didn't like both the characters? That's just silly to my way of thinking, although I have to admit I've read some N/I in which some serious Napoleon bashing going on. Why, why, why???

Re: You exhaust me.

I did, yes. Ahhh I see.

Well now, that is another one of 'those' questions. I guess to 'fit' in? I don't know. But I couldn't do it, not in that kind of story. I just don't get it. It would be like me writing Gibbs/DiNozzo a pairing I just don't see just to 'fit' in with the main pairing. But with so many pairings in NCIS, it's possibly easier to get away with writing the non-main pairing than in a fandom where there really is pretty much only one pairing.
