Taken fromeldritchhobbit.

All I can say is 'huh????

Now I know that a handful of my interests (e.g. Gibbs/Ducky, Neil/Willy) are rare, certainly in LJ land, so I have no problem with those. However, it's the 'unusual' ones that made me do a triple-take. The Professionals, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Napoleon/Illya, Bodie/Doyle and many others are unusual?!?!?!?!?!

Even though fandom has wholeheartedly embraced livejournal (or so it seems), the vast majority of people who have livejournals are likely to be from the US and/or teenagers and not in fandom per se. Even those who are in fandom are unlikely to be in the fandoms you're in, since one of them isn't even available on dvd and the other is a UK show and therefore not one they'd be familiar with.

Look at the numbers for the 'universal' interests you listed and it'll give you an idea of the scale of what your more quirky interests are up against. The people making up the bulk of interests on lj are likely to have very few shared interests with the rest of us sad fandom people. ;)

I take your point. However...

the other is a UK show and therefore not one they'd be familiar with.

Oddly enough, I believe that Pros is more popular in the US than it is in the UK, which I suppose given the population differential isn't that suprising, but even so....

with the rest of us sad fandom people. ;)

:-)

It may well be that there are more US fans in the Pros fandom as a whole, and like you say the difference in population sizes would help with that, but that doesn't mean the show is well known outside of fandom.

If it hasn't been shown on a major channel in the US in the past decade (has it ever?) then chances are the majority of the people with livejournals won't even know it exists.

Well if it encourages you any most of my Due South fandom interests are unusual or rare!

::Sigh:: Yes, I guessed that, as my DS ones are also in those categories ::sigh::

Perhaps it just shows how discerning we are? ;-)

Hey, that's a good thought.

I like the way your mind works.

Thanks!

I have no universal, a few common, and mostly specialist and unusual, with a chunk of rare.

The teenagers who rule her have different tastes entirely and 90% of them don't even know who our boys are.

There's a demographic curve somewhere on LJ that shows something like 90% of the userbase is under 25.

Really??? Golly, I am surprised. I don't know why I'm surprised, but I am :-)

'Ask and ye shall receive' :-)

Wow!

Thank you for this. It's fascinating.

I am not represented at all. France, apparently, is located in another part of the galaxy and my age in archeologic times.
franciskerst From: franciskerst Date: 6th August 2005 20:56 (UTC) (Link)
Is the shot used for your icon genuine or made up? I recently developped a strong interest for this show I never viewed when it was aired in France, many years ago, only by reading some of the fics recced in Crack Van. Do you know if there are DVD available in UK?
From: blktauna Date: 6th August 2005 21:04 (UTC) (Link)
Do you mean this one?

It's real all right. Lewis was having a joke on Martin.
If you want to see more images, and get links to the dvds, go here:

No time wasted! I went to your site, read the texts, watched the pictures and ordered the whole four seasons set of DVDs. If only it could be so easy to get the four seasons of MFU...Thanks so much. Now I must find "The Sentinel"

It's slashtastic Francis... enjoy away!
franciskerst From: franciskerst Date: 7th August 2005 21:36 (UTC) (Link)

Except I had to delete my order to Amazone.uk because they messed up things in my account so I never could confirm my purchase by entering a new credit card number (I got an error message implying their server, not my handling). After two hours of obstinate muddlings and a near nervous breakdown, I went to the French site of amazone and succeeded within five minutes, though having to pay a much higher price.

Now I hope I wont receive the stuff twice!
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 7th August 2005 07:42 (UTC) (Link)
Oh, goodie. You've decided to order the DVDs. I am delighted.

I hadn't forgotten that I'd promised you a pimping DVD, but we haven't got a recorder yet, unfortunately. Anyway, enjoy!!! I'm sure you will and there is lots of great fiction out there.

Another Pros fan - we hope!
franciskerst From: franciskerst Date: 7th August 2005 16:25 (UTC) (Link)
I forgot you promised anything; thanks for the kind thought anyway.
I am already hooked to the "Pros" fictions through the "Crack Van" recs; that was what stirred my curiosity, but I found out the show by perusing Liza's Picture Library. I don't like too much the actors' physical appearance but as characters they seem quite interesting.
From: susan_peri Date: 7th August 2005 16:24 (UTC) (Link)
"unusual" must be defined as 1000 entries or less. MFU suffers because most of the fans are aging, although with it being aired again, maybe we'll pick up a new fanbase. But the ones who saw it when it was first run are now in their fifties and sixties -- not livejournal candidates.

I've never seen the Professionals.
