I'm considering it. Again. Still as undecided as the past twice(?)

I've ummed and ahhed and by the end of last night, I decided I wouldn't bother this year because by the time I got up or was in a position to purchase said account, the sale would have been finished, and then they go and do this!

Tell me what to do! *g* ... or really, tell me what you love about your permanent account and what you think the biggest plusses are over and above a paid account. Pleeeeeease :)

*hugs*

*Waves to a fellow fence sitter*

Apparently they did this because a lot of folk get paid on th 15th of a month.

What I love is the icon space. I now have 195 spaces (I hate to say it's still not enough *laughs in a self-depreciating way*). You also get a lot more Scrapbook space, but I don't use Scrapbook (I can't figure out how to *rolls eyes*)

I bought mine the time before last and bought it on the grounds that with buying a paid account each year and extra icons it would have paid for itself in c. four years.

Really at the time it was purely a financial thing - but then they decided to add loyalty icons and that meant a nice lot more for permanent account holders.

If you're an icon addict and/or a Scrapbook addict then that is the huge benefit. If you're not really bothered about icons, i.e. don't buy extra ones each year then I'm not sure it would be worth it as it'd take nearer to eight/nine years.

Hope this helps.

Nahhh... they did it because they can feel me wavering *snigger*

I wouldn't exactly say I'm an icon addict (not yet, at any rate *g*) but I know that the minimum icons I get with my paid account are NOT enough - I have to upgrade to 100. And although I've never used my full entitlement so far - I've always hovered between halfway and three-quarters full, I have a big feeling that's about to change, because I'm contemplating changing the way I use my journal AND because my Photoshop skills are really coming along and I can see me making oodles of icons in the near future, and filling up every space available to me. Of course, that'll then give me new dilemmas as to which one to choose, but hey ho ;)

I do use the scrapbook to upload images to, but I've never done anything more with it than that yet. Don't know what else can be done with it, but I'm sure it's worth exploring some day...

On the financial side, it's $35 per year to stay as I am, which means if I'm still here in 5 years, I'm then onto a winner. And as I've now been here for 3 1/2 and it's the only social network I use regularly, I'd say the likelihood is pretty fair - unless something major happens with LJ, of course.

Ah, well now, it could be that . . .

So you are paying $35.00 per year and one wonders how long it'll be before that creeps up a little. Are you? Oh, good. And getting better is always good - and having fun. So yes, you'll be short of space.

I've never even been able to figure out how to get the images uploaded and then organised and provide links, etc. I use PhotoBucket.

*Nods* That is, as I said, why I went for it (it was $150) when I got it. I told myself that having vowed I'd never get a LJ once I got it it was like another new lease of life, so I knew I'd be around for long enough to make it well worth while. So the extra icons were the proverbial icing.

I'm thinking about getting a permanent account, mostly because of all the extra icon space. But I'm not sure that it's worth it, yet. What are the biggest differences between a permanent account and a paid account? Is it just the extra icons, or are there more?
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 11th December 2008 12:14 (UTC) (Link)
The biggest two differences are the icons (which for me is *the* thing) and you also get more Scrapbook space. Other than that . . . Well I guess it also depends on how long you reckon you'll be on LJ for.

If you buy extra icons each year with a paid account it adds up to $35.00. That means that in five years the permanent account has paid for itself. So if you reckon you'll have a LJ for more than five years, you'll be better off financially in the long run. That's why I bought one three or so years ago. And then they did the loyalty pics and of course that made me hugely happy.

So other than a lot more icons and also scrapbook space the only benefit is a longer term one.

Thank you :)
I guess it's better if I wait a while then, since I've not had this journal for even a year, and a paid account only since April. I don't think I'll give this journal up in the first place though :)

You are welcome.

They tend to have them every couple of years - although the last one was actually last year, so it was 16/17/18 months between them.
yehwellwhatever From: yehwellwhatever Date: 11th December 2008 14:57 (UTC) (Link)
Okay. Then maybe I'll get one next time the option presents itself :)
birggitt From: birggitt Date: 11th December 2008 11:35 (UTC) (Link)
Well, I'm not buying. I'm a little... you know... not happy with LJ owners.
But, sometimes, when I think about icons space... *laughs*

*Smiles*

I got mine three or so years ago when things were different. And I did it as it made financial sense given that I bought a paid account each year and extra icons - it'll have paid for itself next yearish.

Would I buy one now? To be honest I probably would because of the icon space. Yep, I'm addicted to 100x100 squares!
birggitt From: birggitt Date: 11th December 2008 12:20 (UTC) (Link)
I totally understan that kind of addiction. And yes, that's the only one reason I ever thought about buy a permanent account.
I believe they are very aware of that fact, and thar's why free account got only 15 spaces.
What I really love about IJ is their 100 icons space to free accounts!

*Smiles* I'm glad you understand.

Oh, I think they are. Very much so.

That is a good point about it, very good.

Ah they are are they?

Wonder how many have taken them up on it...
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 12th December 2008 16:34 (UTC) (Link)
I wish we knew.

Apparently they did it because a lot of folk who wanted one get paid on the 15th of each month.
aingeal8c From: aingeal8c Date: 12th December 2008 16:52 (UTC) (Link)
Strange they are.

Ah yes. I get paid on the 15th but it sometimes changes. So if the 15th falls on a Sunday I get paid on the Monday but if it falls on a Saturday I think I get paid on a Friday...or something.

nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 12th December 2008 16:57 (UTC) (Link)
Oh, yes!

Now that's interesting. Yes, I remember pay days falling like that too.
