Fannish New Year's Resolutions - 2008 Addenda
Overnight I thought of two others that I had fully intended to put on the list of NYR for 2008, so:

  • To try to write some longer het stories for:

    Abby/McGee
    Lynley Havers

By 'longer' I mean over 1,000 words. I know this doesn't seem a lot to aim for, but as het is a relatively new genre for me and as yet virtually all my het stories have been drabbles, double drabbles, triple drabbles or quadruple drabbles, I think this is a reasonable aim.

  • To complete the alphabet meme for at least other pairings/categories:

    Bodie/Doyle (1 letter - X - remaining)
    Fraser/Vecchio (6 letters (B, Q, R, V, X, Y, Z - remaining)
    Napoleon/Illya (4 letters (K, Q, R, V, Z - remaining)
    Miscellaneous pairings/characters (2 letters - X, Z - remaining)
    Silver/Steel (12 letters - (G, J, K, O, P Q, R, U, V, W, X, Z - remaining)

The second one of these shouldn't be any trouble given that I'm writing A/Mc, B/D and F/V drabbles, but it's something that the 'anal' side of me would like to achieve.
(Okay, confession time, I'd really love to have the meme filled for all the 'sections' - but I'm not sure I'll achieve that in 2008 *g* - hence me being realistic).

Yay. That is a cool goal to have, especially fill in the alphabet, you;re doing really well with that :-)

And you ar realistic, and good at this stuff.

Thank you - it's a bit anal, but what the heck. It's also fun.

And I've done X for two pairings and Z for two and they are the hardest letters, so . . .

    I try to be.

Thank you for your belief in me.
    aingeal8c From: aingeal8c Date: 3rd January 2008 18:08 (UTC) (Link)
Not anal, fun. I mean it can be both but fun means there's no need to worry it's anal.

Yes you've done the hardest parts.

    You are welcome. *hugs*

I like the way your phrase/explain/justify it - thank you.

    Indeed.

    *Hugs back*

    Lynley

Make sure you alert here when you have finished a Lynley. Hee hee, I have one Lynley/DS cross over but it is het Ray V/Havers.

    Re: Lynley

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to crosspost/link all my stories here as I post them, rather than just do an end of month summary.

I actually wrote seven Lynley/Havers stories (mostly drabbles) this year. I know you saw a couple of them, but here are the links if you are interested.

    Breaking Unwritten Rules
    His Saviour
    Home Is Where
    The First Step
    Vengeance Is Mine
    Wishing For The Sun
    You Brought It Back

    Re: Lynley

Yeah, I probably did read a couple but don't remember. Hee hee, brain not on full thrusters this year at all.
birggitt From: birggitt Date: 13th January 2008 14:12 (UTC) (Link)
Do you need some help with your alphabet meme? I always ready to help =D
BTW, I'm having such a great time with your post about your fannish year! I found there a lot of stories I hadn't ready, so... happy time to me =D
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 13th January 2008 16:34 (UTC) (Link)
Well now . . . Why not. Go ahead.

My aim is to have a title for each letter of the alphabet for each of my main pairings and then the misc section, in due course.

Mind you, one has to ask at what point does a misc pairing really need a section of their own? How many stories?? (I think I think these things through too much *blush*)

Thank you. I'm glad you're having a good time and finding new things to read *bounce*
birggitt From: birggitt Date: 13th January 2008 17:21 (UTC) (Link)
Mmmm... let's gonna begin with the hardest: X for Pros. I was really tempted to prompt with Xmas, but it would have been too easy, wouldn't it? So... what do you think about xylograph?
due South: B: brisk (I always like how this word sound. It makes me think about camp-fire and cold nights, and stars and love =D)
MFU: keen. Because it has so many meanings, and almost every single one can be apply to Illya =D
Miscellaneous Pairings: X is for M*A*S*H*, and, of course, is X-ray =D
and Z is for Highlander, and the word is zest, another wonderful word, IMHO.
This one was really hard, because I also wanted Starsky and Hutch and Sherlock Holmes, and Abby/McGee (Yes, me reading het! You do that to me!) and Inspector Lynley, but... only 2 letters remaining...
    Silver & Steel: gossip =D
As you can see, I only give you 1 prompt by fandom, but I can give you more =D

About misc pairing, yes, they need their own section. And you could write the whole meme for each one, LOL!

About your stories, I'm reading Ducky/Gibbs and Abby/McGee and... gosh! I'm sucked into their lives. That drabble's arc? Is amazing!
You make me cry. A lot, actually. But only in that hopeless and yet sweet way that just really powerful writers can achieve. So far, Ducky and Gibbs are married (YAY!) and I am happy now =D

    *hugs you*
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 15th January 2008 16:07 (UTC) (Link)
Argh. We've been at cross purposes (tis my fault).

It's not prompts, as such I need, it's titles :-) This isn't the same meme as the one I did towards the end of last year (I will be doing that again at some point), this is a different one. It's the one where you list your stories by title and see how many letters you've used. I've done all 26 for G/D (bet that doesn't surprise you *g*), but me being me want to do it for all - I know. I know.

However, I shall make a note of your prompts and try to write drabbles/stories for you around them - who knows I might even be able to use them for a title.

As you may have seen I've taken up another challenge *sigh* one for a mixture of pairings, and you don't have to declare up front which you'll write. I'm not going to write G/D (as they have enough at the moment), but I shall be writing in various of my other pairings (my other main four, plus some of the ones I discovered last year) so I can use the prompts you've given me there.

You reading het, what about me writing it!!! The one I won't be able to do is Highlander. The story I wrote last year was most definitely a one-off. I've only seen the Methos eps and a couple of films. But after I'd sent 'Endgame' the story I wrote last year came to me. I never thought I'd write it because I'm not in the fandom, but when I set up 12_stories I had the opportunity to write it.

Odd though that you should suggest 'zest' because . . . I was thinking of using it yesterday when I wrote an Abby/McGee double drabble, and vaguely thought about using it for a title. I didn't in the end, but . . . Spooky, eh?

Hmmm. I think that Abby/McGee just might be growing enough to have their own section *sigh*.

Aww, thank you so much. I'm really delighted to hear how much you enjoy my stories. I'm sorry I make you cry *hands over tissues* But also I have to be chuffed as it means my stories have touched you deeply - which is what any writer hopes for.

Gibbs and Ducky married - oh, yes. So happy.

*Hugs you tightly* And apologises again for the confusion I caused.

Oops! I see. Mixed alphabet meme, LOL! It sound almost as a soup.

As you may have seen I've taken up another challenge
And I deliriously happy for that. More stories is ALWAYS good =D

Hehehehe! You know you're into Highlander when "Methos" doesn't come up with a red line under. I more a Methos fan than the show itself, and OMG! the last movie is beyond awful. Really, not ever a giant bottle of tequila could help with it. *shudders* But it's ok, you already wrote in a lot of my beloved fandoms =D

Odd though that you should suggest 'zest' because . . . I was thinking of using it yesterday
Great minds think alike, LOL! But zest is really a wonderful word, isn't it? The way it almost fall from the tongue, ending almost before beginning.

But also I have to be chuffed as it means my stories have touched you deeply - which is what any writer hopes for.
Oh, yes! Your stories are always enticing, full of emotion. You have a real grasp on your characters and that is not very common, so, yes, I'm in love with your writing =D

*hugs you back* and no, there is no need to apologize =D *hugs you a little more*

    *Chuckles* Good one!

And I deliriously happy for that. More stories is ALWAYS good =D

    *Blush* Thank you.

I more a Methos fan than the show itself,

*Nods* I really liked Methos, and had he been in it from the beginning, I think I would now own the DVDs. Duncan used to irritate me quite a lot to be honest.

But it's ok, you already wrote in a lot of my beloved fandoms =D

    *Smiles* Thank you.

Great minds think alike, LOL! But zest is really a wonderful word, isn't it? The way it almost fall from the tongue, ending almost before beginning.

*Nods* Indeed. And it does. I can see it fitting for Abby, because she has a great zest for so many things.

Oh, yes! Your stories are always enticing, full of emotion. You have a real grasp on your characters and that is not very common, so, yes, I'm in love with your writing =D

Thank you again. That is music to my ears. I am so glad to hear this. One also hopes to have a good grasp of the characters, so I'm delighted you feel I do. Thank you *Hugs*

there is no need to apologize =D *hugs you a little more*

Thank you. I'm glad you understand.

    *More hugs*

Yes, sometimes I just want to take Duncan and shake him. You would think, someone who has lived for most than 400 years could be a little less tighass :( But Methos... Ah! Methos! So intriguing, so misterious! He's such a grey character.

I can see it fitting for Abby, because she has a great zest for so many things.
Of course! Abby is a sheer personification of zest =D
Abby, I adore her sooooooooo much!

BTW, I was looking at your list about the new challenge, and OMG! You're a really courageous kind of person!!! But me? I'm floating in cloud #9, LOL!

    *hugs*

*Nods* That's what J and I felt. He was so black and white (Methos did teach him about grey). And when he turned on Methos in the Horsemen episode - it was unbelievable. Look at what he'd done in his lifetime!!!! He wasn't white and good and pure. You did what you did at the time. He did, so why turn on Methos?

Of course! Abby is a sheer personification of zest =D

That she is. And me too :-)

And when he turned on Methos in the Horsemen episode - it was unbelievable
Yes, and yet... it was so Duncanish. I told a friend that, to me, it was just that Duncan is who he is, and Methos couldn't help who he was.
But, somehow, I didn't though all that fuzzle was about Methos past. I believe it was about Duncan felling hurt because Methos wasn't who he thought. It was about Duncan felling hurt because the ROG didn't trust him enough to tell him about that. And it was about Methos doing what he do best: survive. But that confrontation between them? It was so powerful. You could be tears shining in Duncan' eyes, you could hear them in his voice, how chocked, how shaken he was. And Methos, weeping openly on his van... *sobs* Ah, boys! =D
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 18th January 2008 12:48 (UTC) (Link)
True, it was. But I think the biggest problem with Duncan was that given what he was, what he'd done, his character, his 'beliefs' his black and white' was actually unconvincing and unbelievable.

Oh, the confrontation between them was very powerful indeed, Very much so. An excellent scene. Methos made Highlander.
