A Milestone

Today, after eight years of writing fanfic, I have published/posted my 500th story (across zines and the web).

I first began writing fanfic in 1999 (which is when I discovered fandom) in Starsky & Hutch fandom. At the time I wrote for zines, indeed I never envisaged that I would write for anything medium other than zines. In fact it wasn't until December 2004 that I ventured into writing for the web as well as zines.

My very first zine story, Always On My Mind (Starsky & Hutch) was published in 2000 in The Fix #21 - published by Martha Bonds of In Person Press.

My most recent zine story, Revelations (Bodie/Doyle) was published in 2007 in Secrets Agent Men #9 - published by Bast of Requiem Publications.

My very first web story (8th December 2004), Who Needs Hands?, was a Napoleon/Illya story.

My most recent story (16th November 2007), Consensus Of Opinion, is a Gibbs/Ducky story.

When I first started to write fanfic, I only wrote slash, and it is still the largest genre by far, (92.2%) 480 stories. However, I have ventured into writing a little het, 17 (3.4%) stories, and even a tiny amount of gen 3 (0.6%) stories.

Somewhat oddly, maybe, over the eight years I've been writing the amount of on-screen sex in my stories have diminished considerably. Indeed the vast majority of my stories over the last two or three years contain none or hardly any sex at all; they are mainly 'fade to grey' stories. And in a quite a few stories the fact that the pairing are a couple is merely mentioned. I have gone from writing mostly R or NC-17 stories to mostly G or PG stories. And some stories that I label or think of a slash could quite easily be read as gen friendship stories.

The one thing that has never changed, and I can never envisage it changing, is that I have always been a OTP (One True Pairing) girl, in the 'old fashioned' meaning of the word.*

And because I am like that, I have statistics for you (duly cut to prevent boring too many people).

*For me OTP (One True Pairing) means that the pairing are together and that one doesn't read/write about half of the pairing with another character, unless it's before the OTP get together and by the end of the story they are indeed together. They are the pairing and are not put with other characters. This does not mean that, in my eyes, they are the only viable pairing in the fandom and that anyone who doesn't like this pairing is wrong, simply that they are my slash (or in the odd case het) pairing within the fandom.
