Nikki's Notations
A Slash Friendly Journal
Not that I'm paranoid, but . . .
I hope that following the explanation and apology by The Chairman and CEO Six Apart, that things will begin to return to normal, ASAP. I know that some folk still have concerns, and there are some grey areas in the letter, but I'm hopeful.

However, just in case (and being the paranoid person that I am) I do have a Greatest Journal account. I nabbed the name some time ago, but never did anything with it.

I'm hoping that I won't have to move over there; I love LJ. I have a wonderful friends base here, various Comms that I own and run, lots of fanfic challenges that I've taken up, and despite its problems and the niggles, rants it can cause, I find it user friendly and great fun to use.

But just in case, you can find me at:

And also, for Gibbs/Ducky fen, I decided to go ahead and set up a back-up community, again just in case.

Old Friends And Lovers

There is a little blurb for both accounts and some user interests, and I've even made a brief post on both, but other than that, there's nothing there. It's just the whole 'belt and braces' and 'better to be safe than sorry' thing.

On top of that, I've archived my own LJ and ncis_gibbsducky.

I have to say that the explanation and apology is the most forthright and clear I have seen in circumstances like these and I hope it is sincere. All credit if it is and if they can out things right. Time will tell, though like many people, the whole episode did disturb me.
I think setting up an alternative site is a sensible precaution for you and I have bookmarked it and hope it's never needed.
Like you, I have made some lovely friends through LJ and in the last couple of weeks I have met some of them in person for the first time which has been a great pleasure, as they have all turned out just as nice in RL. I've been making a point of contacting LJ Friends via ordinary e-mail addresses where I can, over the last few weeks just so we have another means of getting in touch if something goes wrong.
Nice to see you posting again, hope you are beginning to feel a little better. Not long now till the longest day when you can start celebrating and I can start grumbling, as the nights start to draw in!

Generally I think it was very clear and open and honest. There were one or two vague things that could still lead to concerns, but generally, if they do follow through as they say they are going to, then all should be well again. I hope.

I'm glad that you had a good time meeting some of the folk you'd 'met' on LJ. It's always of some concern as to whether they'll be the same and whether you'll get on. I'm delighted to say that of the handful of fandom-made-friends I've met face-to-face, my experience has been the same as yours. Which is wonderful.

Thank you. I'm trying to rest and be good.

And yes, indeed longest day soon ;-))) Another friend of mine will also be grumbling, whereas Caffy will be celebrating along with me.

I have to say I think that SixApart is realising they badly screwed up. It's an okay apology. It still leaves some questions unanswered to me. I think the biggest peice of information was one of the updates - that Brad was on holiday. One wonders how things would have gone down had he been here.

I have nipped over to Greatest Journal and set up an account as a backup - aingeal8c you will be surprised to hear. I will make it look a bit better at some point.

I intend to stick with LJ. I am not going to stop my paid account in protest (yet ;-) I like it here. Here is where my friends are, where my comms I set up are. I can use LJ easily and as a paid account I don't see ads.

I am more optomistic about things than some reactions I've seen so far. I think part of it was related to the whole fanlib thing and the possibility of TPTB finding out nad not being happy and C&Ds and people forced to remove fanfic. I have no doubt that factor was also in people's minds at the time this happened. Fandom paranoia was on a high before this and it got misconstrued early on as an attack on fandom.

I am not sure how to archive my own LJ (or closet or weekly). I've seen a couple of sites but they require downloading .NET software which I am reluctant to do as the last few times I have downloaded plugins or updates or new things it screws my computer up. So any tips? ;-)

Oh, very badly. They acted without thinking or investigating, very poor for business; but then as we know that's LJ to a tee *sigh* That's a good point, re: Brad.

I've friended you back on GJ :-)

I have no intention of running off or of dropping G/D as paid (purely because of the mood theme *sigh* It's the only extra feature of a paid over free that I use for the Comm.

I too wonder if part of the explosion was because it was so fast on the heels of the FanLib thing.

I did mine via software from ljarchive - download. It's a small program and I used that. Mind you, I need to really look at it because although it did tell me it was downloading and stuff, it *appears* to be a very small file that works in conjunction with a browser. So I'm not 100% certain it's what I want.

There appears to be another one back-up that I might have a look at.

And also one of my friends mentioned another one in this post, which I'll check out too.

They did indeed. SOmeone was a little but trigger happy....and I wonder if Brad is back yet.

I saw TYK ;-)

And yes I want to keep closet paid if only becuase of the style choice and flexibility it gives.

I suspect it was.

I have yet to backup mine. I am wary of the downloading thing. Having said that I now at least have Semagic! :-)

Certainly were. And I wonder too.

Exactly. From what I remember the style you use for Closet is available for free users now. My only real reason is the mood theme, which is almost kind of daft to spend money on that. OTOH, I like it. So . . .

I can understand that. And you do indeed.

I suspect he'll have a lto of fun when he comes back ;-)

I think I might have to review closet then. I need to get some meta postd there this week too. And I like your mood theme. It works well.

Thank you. Not that I have used it yet...
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 5th June 2007 15:08 (UTC) (Link)

Thank you. I'm pleased it with myself; it was lot of hard work, but I really enjoyed making it. So I reckon it's a justifiable expense :-)

*Giggles* Try it. It's great.
aingeal8c From: aingeal8c Date: 5th June 2007 21:49 (UTC) (Link)
I think it certainly is.

And I think I shall tommorrow.

Thinking is good ;-)
