30 Days of Fandom Meme Day 22

22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favourite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

I have participated in various fests and Big Bangs. I have also organised and ran a few fiction exchanges for Gibbs/Ducky and also Rare Pairs.

When I first got into fandom on LJ, I took part in a Christmas exchange for three different fandoms. Whilst I enjoyed writing stories for other people based on their wishes I hadn't realised how stressed and upset I would get over the fact that the stories were posted by the organiser, thus making them anonymous until the big reveal. I hated not being able to personally thank the people who wrote my stories. I know it sounds silly given everyone was in the same boat and everyone knew the rules, thus they wouldn't be expecting a 'thank you', but it really troubled me and thus spoilt the whole experience. I vowed I would never take part in an anonymous exchange again - and I didn't. It's a shame as I always loved writing stories for other people, but given how I felt I wasn't going to do anonymous ones again.

I really loved running and organising the exchanges I did even though that was very stressful, especially on the occasion I ended up having to write three (it may have been four) stories due to people having to drop out for various reasons.

I think the Big Bang I enjoyed most was the NCIS 2008 one. It was a multi-pairing Big Bang and all authors were matched with artists who would do some artwork for the story. I wrote My Son's Boyfriend (Gibbs/Ducky) and it was illustrated by moregoth. The story was over 45,000 words long and given I'm fairly sure G/D was not a pairing moregoth read/liked, the fact the artwork showed the story had been read, it wasn't just generic banners really added to the pleasure and fun of the whole experience.
