Day 06 – When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?

For the first seven years of my fanfic writing life, I only wrote male/male slash. Thus, whilst the occasional woman did appear in my stories, it was never in a major role.

Even after I started writing the odd bit of het, it wasn't until 2007 that I found myself a main het pairing (Abby/McGee) and not until 2008 when I really branched out in NCIS fandom and started to write several het pairings and even one femslash pairing and I also started to write some gen stories.

During this year the balance between slash, het and gen has been pretty even (not that, as you know, I've written a great deal at all. But I still do write more male characters than I write female characters. I'm not totally sure it's a case of 'preferring' to write them, it's a case of just getting more ideas for slash, het or male-centric gen stories. And I'm more used to writing male characters than female characters.
