NCIS: Gibbs/Fornell (Whisper)

Month-long TV Meme - Day #11 - A show that disappointed you.

When nicis_anatomy started to post this meme last month, I promised her that I would do it in June. So I am keeping my promise. From seeing Nici's posts last month, I know several of my answers will be the same as hers.

Day 11 - A show that disappointed you.

I could in some ways have gone for NCIS, as after Seasons 1&2 it has disappointed somewhat, despite still being my obsession and favourite show. However, we'll have enough of NCIS in this, besides it doesn't really fit.

Thus instead, I'm going with House, MD starring Hugh Laurie.

I'm sad this has to be the 'show that has disappointed you', but it has done. It started off really well, Season 1 was excellent; House was sarky, unpleasant at times, addicted to painkillers, distant and a top notch diagnostician. The rest of the main cast was great as well and the interaction between them first rate. Gregory House is not a man you'd want as your doctor when it came to meeting him, but if you had something no one else could diagnose, you'd want him. It was a refreshing and different take on being a doctor.

However, rather than move forward after Season 1, House seemed to stagnate. Season 2 was okay, Season 3 with the cop storyline was for me unbelievable. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but the idea that this cop could waltz in and out of a hospital in the way he did, just seemed far fetched and impossible.

But it wasn't just that, none of the characters really grew - and this is from someone who doesn't expect all characters to grow all the time. We just had the same old, same old, week after week after week. They changed the ducklings, although they still appeared in the credits, they came back, one left, but the original ones are still in the 'major' credits, whereas the new ones aren't, but again nothing really changed. It just toddled on and toddled on with storylines that needed resolution, but you never seemed to get there.

I've never been involved with the fandom, although I've read the odd House/Wilson drabble and yet in some ways given the relationship between House and Wilson, them being old friends, all the looks, the 'most important person', etc. etc. etc. I should be shipping them in the way I ship Gibbs and Ducky, but I don't.

When Season 6 ended as it did, I really thought that would be it; it would be a logical place to finish. But no, it's going to continue.

It's a show we watch and still enjoy, we wouldn't be watching if we didn't *g* But it's a not a show we'll buy on DVD - and that pretty much says it all. It is a show that has, sadly, disappointed me. I hate to be so negative, but for me it's a show that promised more than it has delivered,
