My dogs: Tansy

Month-long TV Meme - Day #10 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving.

When nicis_anatomy started to post this meme last month, I promised her that I would do it in June. So I am keeping my promise. From seeing Nici's posts last month, I know several of my answers will be the same as hers.

Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving.

That would be Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

When J and I first heard about it we thought it wouldn't be our kind of thing; 'little blonde girl slays vampires', been there, done that, kind of thing. However, for some reason (which I cannot remember) when it was shown on our then cable TV, J decided to record the first couple of episodes and we watched and enjoyed and carried on recording and watching. But we agreed it wasn't a 'buy the DVDs' type of show.

All that changed when the station decided to skip from Season Two to Season Four - well, we had to know what happened in Season Three, right? And somehow we ended up buying Seasons One and Two as well and . . . Well you can guess the rest, can't you? Yes, we own all seven seasons and have watched them several times and will watch again. We both love it.

It's a show that for us works on several levels. The cast is excellent; the premise whilst pretty basic and on on level is far from basic when it comes down to being executed; the scripts are darn good, it has humour, pathos, sadness, it pushes boundaries, it makes you laugh, cry, shake your head and get really caught up with the characters and what they are involved in.

I personally have a small preference for the 'early days' before the went off to college and Angel left and before Dawn appeared, but that's being picky. In all it's a show I really love. I love most of the characters, not all of them, but the vast majority and even those I don't really care for (Dawn and Kennedy come to mind) still have a place in the overall show and it wouldn't be the same without them.

My favourite character is Rupert Giles, Librarian, Watcher, Father figure with some darkness in his past, who is also pretty good at using magic. And my favourite ship is Buffy/Angel.

Definitely as how I never thought I'd like, but ended up loving.
