Yet another fannish milestone

During the madness that ensued from my 2009 Alphabet Drabble Meme, I passed another fannish milestone. However, rather than post about it at the time, I thought I'd press on with the stories and post about it later.

With all stories now posted, the time has come to share my latest 'milestone'. During August, I posted my thousandth story.

So what do all the above show? Not a lot really *g*.

  • I love writing *g*

  • A thousand stories in ten years is a very nice round number (me and my round numbers, eh?) An average of one hundred per year (or as J said allowing a week off for Christmas and Easter, two a week *wry grin*). Of course it didn't actually happen like that, but I like the balance.

  • My where I place stories has changed considerably. For the first five years of writing, I only wrote for zines; now I rarely write for zines, posting the vast amount of stories to the web. Getting a LJ was responsible for that, as my web posting began when I got one.

  • Overall I write much shorter stories than I used to. Again, that's down to LJ and discovering the joys of the drabble. April 2006 was when I posted my first drabble and that is pretty much when my writing habits changed.

  • I write far more stories each year than I used to (but a huge part of that is due to my medical retirement).

  • Despite venturing into both het and gen, I still write mainly slash. I have, however, even stepped outside my Gibbs/Ducky OTP a few times and whilst it's mostly followed the death of one half of my OTP, with one little series (Gibbs/McGee) that began as a one-off story, Gibbs and Ducky weren't lovers before Ducky died (Ducky was in love with Gibbs but didn't tell him until the night he died). That is a vast change for me.

  • I'm far more likely to write PG and G than anything else. And all NC-17 and most R rated stories were written between 1999 and 2004. And of the R rated stories written since then, only one would be R rated for on-screen lovemaking; the others are R rated for other reasons.

  • I have one super-main fandom (NCIS); four 'main' fandoms (The Professionals, Due South, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Sapphire & Steel) and from time to time dabble in seven others and have two 'fandoms' in which I have only written one story.

  • I'm anal about statistics *grins*

    I'll stop babbling now.
