Autumn: Trees (Golden)

Crack_Van Rec: 14: The Sins Of The Fathers - Sharpiesgal (G)

I finish my round of recs as I begun - with a Gibbs/Ducky story. I waited until the end to rec this author, as I wanted to end with one of the people who had been writing Gibbs/Ducky the longest.

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Donald 'Ducky' Mallard
Length: 1,329
Author on LJ: sharpiesgal
Author Website: None of which I am aware
Why this must be read:

Chris is one of the longest standing Gibbs/Ducky writers; sadly she doesn't write as many G/D stories as she used to. However, when she does she never ceases to hit the mark as far as telling a good story, letting us have a glimpse into the lives of two men who are not only close friends but also lovers and the characterisation is always excellent.

This story does all those things. It's actually one of her older stories (written in 2006) and is very touching and moving. It's Memorial Day and Gibbs makes an annual pilgrimage, not one he necessarily wants to make, but one he does make. But this time is different, in more ways than one, from the other times. (Note as with so many stories written in current show fandom, this story is in fact contradicted by later canon).

The story is full of love, so very believable, is a great take on the characters, painful, yet happy and peaceful too. It's fairly short, but I've never felt length matters - Chris packs a great deal into c.1,300 words and none of them are wasted.
