Autumn: Leaves (Name)

Fiction. To Those Who Wait (Gibbs/Ducky)

Finally! About a week ago I didn't think I would get my NaNo novel posted in the year in which it was written. Indeed I had my End Of Year Meme done saying that very thing. But perverse creature that I can be at times, I decided to give it a go. After all LJ was fairly quiet, nothing else was happening in our lives (not that it ever does) the bunnies were happy to be temporarily knocked out by knock out drops, and so I thought 'why not'? I still didn't think it was possible to screen edit and hard copy edit a (at that point) c. 123,000 in such a short time, but if you don't try, you don't know, do you? So I tried. And I succeeded! (No doubt it will still need tweaking in places and I shall indeed do another read through, but I really did want to get it posted in the year in which it was written).

TITLE: To Those Who Wait
AUTHOR: Ashleigh Anpilova
PAIRINGS: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Donald 'Ducky' Mallard (main pairing). Shannon Gibbs/Jennifer Shepard (sub-pairing). (In the epilogue there is the smallest of mentions of Abigail Sciuto/Timothy McGee and Kelly Gibbs/a current NCIS character - I usually hate the 'surprise' pairing thing, but as it is literally the final line of the novel, I'm leaving it as a surprise').
CHARACTERS: Jethro Gibbs, Ducky Mallard, Kelly Gibbs, Tobias Fornell, Shannon Gibbs, Jennifer Shepard, Stephanie Flynn. Plus a handful of OCs (male and female) and mentions of other NCIS canon characters.
GENRE: Slash
SUB-GENRE: First Time. Alternate Universe.
SUMMARY: Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a recently divorced, highly successful, hard-working lawyer, advertises for a tutor for his eight year-old daughter Kelly. The successful applicant is Dr. Donald 'Ducky' Mallard. The two men quickly become close friends. However, what Jethro could not possibly have realized was that Ducky will turn his life upside down and change it in ways he could not possibly have imagined.
WORD COUNT: 125,381
AUTHOR'S NOTE: There are so many people I want and need to thank for your help and encouragement during this story. So if you'll forgive me, rather than run the risk of missing any single person out let me say a overall thank you firstly to my NaNo filter who put up with my posts each day and were full of encouragement not only about the progress I was making, but also about the snippets I was sharing - I doubt I'd have achieved as much had it not been for you. And secondly a huge thank you to those of you who helped me out with research in respects of books for young girls in 1992; yes, I could have found out titles, etc. myself, but not only would it have taken me a considerably longer time, it wouldn't have been as precise as information coming from people who 'were there' or knew people who were there, so to speak. So thank you.
WARNINGS: It might be considered weird to 'warn' for sex scenes and I'm not really. However, given it is a fairly rare thing for me to write on-screen sex, I think it's only fair that I mention there are two fairly lengthy on-screen lovemaking scenes as well as a few other minor ones.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own these characters, nor am I making any money from them. I merely borrow them from time to time.

To Those Who Wait (Not surprisingly this is an off-LJ link which goes to my website).

I had an internal debate with myself as to how best to upload the story, i.e. in one page or split up by chapters or months, etc. However, in the end I opted with single page because if anyone wants to download it to read off-line, I personally always find downloading one page better than 40 or 12 or whatever. However, if that amount of text is too much for people's browsers/computers, please let me know and I'll think of the best way to split it up. I would have thought months (the story is spread out over 1992 with a short epilogue set fourteen years after the story began). In fact I will almost certainly upload it in an additional source as well.

Anyway, I shall stop babbling and just say 'thank you' so much again to all of you who gave me support and encouragement before, during and after this project.
