For those of you who hate the planned new site scheme
and are happily thinking 'oh, it's okay, I'll just go on using XColibur or Dystopia' (a comment I have seen expressed on my f-list and over LJ generally), don't be too certain that you'll be able to.
From the off-set I had this 'feeling' (akin to Gibbs's gut), that this new design was going to be 'the' design, albeit in two variations - horizontal and vertical. However, given the amount of people who'd said 'they'd just go on using their current one', I thought maybe I was wrong.
A few days ago LJ were asking people to suggest names
for this new scheme (I don't think they'll be going with some of the suggestions), and I decided it might be a good place to try to ascertain whether they would still be around. Thus, I asked burr86
, one of the LJ Development Team
, who has been very good at answering questions in various forums, and has encouraged people to ask them, whether the existing schemes would still exist when the new one came into being.
The first time I asked, he didn't answer; he answered other bits of my post, but not that part. So I asked again. This was his response: Regarding the existing site schemes -- I'm not 100% sure, but I think they're going to continue to be around. (I'm always hesitant to respond to these sorts of questions because I don't have a definite answer, so if I say what I think is going to happen, it's going to get quoted from here to Kansas and back if we end up doing something different. :P )
So it is not
definite that the existing schemes will still be around in their existing format. And once again my feeling is that they won't be; that the new beta scheme
will indeed become 'the' site scheme, albeit with the choices of horizontal and vertical, and that XColibur and Dystopia will no longer be around.
Maybe I'm just being cynical (see, blktauna
, I can be too), but . . . Well, if I were burr86
and I'd been asked that question, if I really didn't know the answer then I'd have said 'I don't know, but I'll try to find out for you', but that's just the way I do things. Sadly I've seen too many of these kind of 'I'm not 100% sure, but...' things, not on LJ per se
, but in the world generally, and usually my experience has been that the answer to the question is 'no', but the person doesn't want to say, because they know they'll be some kind of backlash. But, that's probably just me. He probably genuinely doesn't know; after all, there's no reason for him to lie to me, is there? Maybe LJ haven't made the decision yet.
Anyway, I thought that some of you might be interested in this ramble.
