Answer for question 4410.
What were your favorite books growing up? How did those influence your choice of a favorite genre when you got older?
I was a huge Enid Blyton fan to begin with and read a great number of her books and loved them.

I then moved on to pony books, which was somewhat odd as I wasn't actually a huge fan of horses and whilst I did go riding with Mother a couple of times, I didn't enjoy it.

After that I moved on the things like Sherlock Holmes, Raffles, the Star Trek episode adaptations by James Blish and crime/detective books in general.

Given my favourite genre today is crime/detective/mystery, I guess the books I read in my middle-later childhood did indeed influence me.

Plus, I tended when I got into fandoms such as Starsky & Hutch and The Professionals to read the episode adaptations. And I've just remembered I actually still have the James Blish books.

And I actually do still have a few Enid Blyton books which I read and still love.

I grew up liking Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. My grandfather started me off with him when I was a wee tyke, especially Sherlock. These led to Ellery Queen and detective magazines which he loved us to read together. I loved those times with my poppy. Science fiction came along later but never loved it as much as the crime, mystery, detective genre.

*Waves to a fellow ACD fan* I also read some Ellery Queen.

They are lovely memories you have.

I read other genres as well, but crime/mystery/detective is indeed still my all time favourite.

I also loved the Enid Blython books when I was young, as was clear from that meme that went around a little while ago and I love crime/detective/mystery books too. We do have a lot in common, don't we! :)

Yes, I remember us discussing our shared liking of Enid Bylton a while ago and crime/detective/mystery more than once. We do indeed.

Another Enid Blyton fan here... as you know. *g* What I didn't know is that you read the James Blish Star Trek books... which I also did in my teens. :-)

Oh, really? Like you I didn't know you'd read them! Hee.
