Wimbledon 2014 Days #12 & 13

And the Ladies' Singles Champion is:

Petra Kvitova!

In one way it wasn't a great match, at least not when it came to being a close match because it wasn't - 6:3, 6:0.

However, in another way it was a great match when it came to the superb, utterly brilliant and amazingly sustained play by Petra. She simply out-hit, out-powered and out-classed Genie - and Genie is known for her aggressive play.

I said earlier that I feared Genie might be over-whelmed and she was, but not by the occasion! She was over-whelmed by the brilliance that was Petra Kvitova. I've never seen her play as well, as pretty much perfectly and as consistently. In those terms it was one of the best matches I've seen - but in terms of closeness, not so much.

Genie didn't play badly - and I hope the papers don't/aren't she did; she just played at the level Petra allowed to play at. I have no doubt that young lady will be a Grand Slam Champion one day soon.

I hope Petra isn't as over-whelmed by this win as she was three years ago, but can now handle the whole pressure of not only being a GS Champion but of being recognised and talked about and everything that goes with it.

Kudos to both ladies, actually. But especially to Petra.

As for the men's final . . .

It's probably not the one people were expecting (or maybe even hoping for) but it's the final we have.

Both men fully deserve to be there because after all when it comes down to it, you can only beat the person on the other side of the net - you don't beat the paper draw, you beat the person. Matches between these two are usually pretty darn good as they are both excellent players and quite different players.

Thus, I am both expecting and hoping for a jolly good match.

Will the roof being closed (if it is) have any affect? No, I don't think it will, not this year. Federer is still the best indoor player on the tour, but if anyone can live with him indoors it is Djokovic who is also a darn fine indoor player.

My prediction?

Djokovic in four (or maybe five *g*)

But from things I've seen/heard I am probably in the minority with this prediction *g*
