The three fandom meme

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favourite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

donutsweeper gave me: NCIS, Due South and M*A*S*H

NCIS

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
David McCallum. Basically my good friend maubast emailed me about this new American show NCIS in which David McCallum was to appear as one of the stars. She knew I loved him and asked if I'd like her to send me the episodes. I said 'yes, please', started to watch it, fell in love with the show and the characters and that, as they say, was that.

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
Well I'm still here almost seven years later and whilst my focus from a single pairing has changed tremendously *wry grin* and although it's (the characters aside) a totally different show from the one with which I fell in love and although I moan about it more than I did in the early days and although I still wish we'd go back to the good old days of S1 & 2 and although I'd be more than happy for it to end this year, I think I'll still be around writing for quite some time.

3. Favourite episodes/books/movies, etc?
'Lt. Jane Doe'. I love it. It's my favourite not just because it's a) Ducky-centric and b) Gibbs/Ducky-centric, but because it's team based; there's an excellent case, it's gripping all the way through, nothing jars, there's no unpleasantness or anything else negative. It's just a grand episode.

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
*Chuckles softly* It could be said I do a wee bit *g* You know, just now and then like, nothing too much *g* I've written 936 stories (a mixture of slash, het and gen with a variety of pairings and characters) and still have plenty of ideas, I write reviews of each episode and get involved in discussions, I make graphics from time to time. So yes, I guess you could say I participate.

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?</i>
Sure, why not? It's not as friendly and 'let's all get on together and play in a big sandbox as well as our own favourite pairing/character's sandbox' as it once was. Sadly there are pairing wars and character bashing - I know that goes on in pretty much every fandom, but it was a sad day for me when it NCIS fandom went that way. But it's still a relatively small (compared to some) fandom, so the more the merrier.

DUE SOUTH

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
The what is actually a who - solo to be exact. Solo and I knew one another from Starsky & Hutch fandom and she emailed me to tell me about this new show that was very like Starsky & Hutch as far as the relationship between the two leads went and she sent me a pimping tape (or two). I watched, I enjoyed and I kept waiting for the 'Starsky/Hutch-like' pairing to appear, but they didn't. Basically, I kept waiting for the Ray Vecchio whom I'd seen for about two minutes in 'Burning Down The House' to show up - because that short phone call between him and Fraser was one of the slashiest scenes I had ever seen. So surely that was the pairing Solo mean, right? Wrong - it was the other Ray. Ooops. Anyway, Solo kindly sent me more videos, this time from S1&2 and I was hooked - sadly not on the same pairing as she, but there you go.

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
In effect I have moved on. I'm no longer that active in it. I write a story from time to time, maybe one a year, but I don't consider myself part of the fandom. I'm not actually sure I ever considered myself part of the fandom as such, not in the way I do and did with other fandoms.

3. Favourite episodes/books/movies, etc?
I've never really had an out and out favourite, but one that is certainly 'up there' is 'Pizzas and Promises'. It's a fun episode, it show Ray and Benny undercover and poor Benny out of his depth, it shows the friendship between the two men and shows their love for one another too - and it has an incredibly slashy 'Benny rescues Ray scene'.

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
If writing a story per year (if that) counts, then yes. But in short, no I don't. Not any longer.

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
Who am I to say? The Ray wars still exist (as far as I know they do). Even when I was more involved than I am now, it never felt like a fandom; it always felt like two.

M*A*S*H

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
M*A*S*H is an odd one as I don't think I am in nor have I ever been in the fandom. We have the DVDs which we've watched several times, I've done all the fannish things: talking about the episodes (with J), reading fanfic, tracking down pictures, quotes, M*A*S*H sites, having thoughts about it and of course writing - but that hasn't made it an actual fandom for me. I think I know why, it's because even I (the person who can give happy endings to pretty much anyone) can't give me pairing of choice (Hawkeye/BJ) a happy ending.

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
Can you move on from something you aren't actually in? I imagine I'll go on writing the odd story or two for as long as I go on writing and I'll watch the DVD again but otherwise . . .

3. Favourite episodes/books/movies, etc?
In all honesty, I can't say I have one. I love the series overall and there isn't one episode that sticks out more than the others do. There is so much to love in so many. But I'll say 'Mulcahy's War' simply because we got to see a great deal of Father Mulcahy and see him pretty much out of his depth (being talked through an emergency tracheotomy by Hawkeye over the radio.

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
I write a story from time to time, but that's about it.

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
Sure, why not? *g*
