I have such fun doing thirty days memes that I decided to create another NCIS one. Please feel free to snaggle it should you wish to.
Day #30 - If you could be granted three NCIS wishes what would they be?
Day #30 - If you could be granted three NCIS wishes what would they be?
1. That as far as the style of case and story-lines go (not main characters) we could go back in time to how the show was in Seasons 1 & 2. Back to a time when the case was the main focus of the episode and all the personal stuff was secondary. Back to a time when we learnt a lot about the characters, but it fitted with the main focus of the episode and we learnt it in drip feed style. To a time before the most disastrous story-line NCIS ever came up with: Shannon & Kelly. Back to a time when we didn't know every single thing about Gibbs; the enigma was so much better than all the full blown details. Back to a time when fans could play happily not only in their own ships sandbox, but in fandom in general. Back to a time before character bashing and ship wars. Back to a time when the 'N' actually stood for 'Naval' and the naval connection wasn't an after thought. Back to a time when the show wasn't about guest stars and shoe-horning them into story-lines. Back to a time when the team were front and centre and the same people didn't lose out time and time again when a special guest star appeared. Back to a time when the well know guest stars had a good reason for being there (i.e. Fornell). Back to a time when they went on ship and submarines. I don't want to lose Ziva, I wouldn't even mind Vance staying (although I'd love Tom Morrow back) but other than that I wish we could be back in time and start from the beginning of Season 3 all over again and stick to the wonders that were Seasons 1 & 2: the show with which I fell in love a time when it was a crime show.
I do still love the characters and this season has been, for the most part, pretty darn good insofar as sticking to cases as the main part of the episode, but rewatching from the very beginning has really made me realise just how much and how far the show has changed, how, apart from the majority of the characters, it is a completely different show and not the one I fell in love with. And I'm not even sure one I would watch, at least not more than casually were I not already deeply involved with it.
2. That Brian Dietzen would be a main star and appear in the pictorial credits and Jimmy would be in every episode.
3. That TPTB who run the show know when to quit, know when enough is enough, know when the show has run its course and stop the show - rather than listen to the suits and think of nothing but money and go on and on until the show not only jumps the shark - it performs quintuple somersaults over it. (Some people would say it's gone past that stage already).
