Day 22 – Saddest character death

There have been several characters whose death for one reason or another touched me, even if we only saw them in one episode.

However, for this question (as with the least favourite character) question I felt it was 'right' to go with a main character, someone whom I got to know, hence the 'saddest'. And the death of the person I have chosen really as a sad death.

My choice:

Caitlin Todd.

Kate wasn't my overall favourite character, but I really did love her. I thought she was an extremely well written female character, well balanced, feisty, attractive, intelligent, feminine without being overly girly.

She was a woman in a man's world, but she wasn't afraid to be a woman, yes, as she told Gibbs when she first met him like certain species of frogs she grew what she needed, but she was still very feminine. She was also excellent at standing up to Tony and giving as good as she got from him, their sibling banter was excellent. I loved the scene when she and Tony go to see Ducky to 'mediate' and Ducky refers to 'trying to please father' and at that point Gibbs arrives.

I knew, before I saw the episode, that Kate as going to die in 'Twilight', but I still cried when she died and have done so every time I've the episode. And it wasn't just a sad death for viewers, it was a sad death for the team. Kate's death touched Gibbs, Ducky, Tony, Tim, Jimmy and most of all Abby who was so very close to Kate.

She was a great character and as much as I love Ziva now I still miss Kate. Her death was a very sad death.

Kate's death didn't affect me much, as I started watching regularly after she'd already died. I do, however, know many who loved her.

I'll have my answer posted sometime later today.

I can understand that.

Shut up! Sarah

I only asked a perfectly innocent question. I have no idea what NCIS is.

NCIS stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service, it's an American crime drama about to go into its ninth season in September.

It's basically a show where all the crimes are naval or marine related.

It's my main fandom and obsession *g* I write slash, het and gen stories.

There is a real NCIS actually - but it's one of the smaller Federal Agencies in the US.

Thanks for that. I don't watch American dramas so no wonder I'm in the dark (actually, I'm not sure if it's shown in the UK.) But, looking at some of your screencaps, isn't one of its stars our very own David McCallum?
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 22nd June 2011 17:01 (UTC) (Link)
You're welcome.

It is indeed shown in the UK on Channel 5 and also on a non-freeview channel - but not the current series.

Oh, yes, David McCallum plays Doctor Donald 'Ducky' Mallard the Medical Examiner. He's one half of my main pairing.

He used to star in one of my favourite programmes, Sapphire and Steel.

I know he did.

That's another of my favourite programmes too and one of my main fandoms.

Oh, I lovedher too.. And I agree.. She was a great loss.
Do you know the episode with her sister? I thought that
waqs excellent..It wasseason eight, I think.
See if we can start community for her.. Would love if they
brought her back...they could figure a way!

She was indeed.

I do, it was 'A Man Walks Into A Bar . . .' It was an interesting episode, I thought the actress who played Kate's sister was excellent. Personally, I would have liked to have seen the episode earlier in the series, closer to Kate's death.

My mom likes the end of that episode, when Gibbs is standing over her casket and he just gets this look on his face.
nakeisha From: nakeisha Date: 23rd June 2011 11:54 (UTC) (Link)
Ah, yes, 'that' look - very moving.
honeybearbee From: honeybearbee Date: 23rd June 2011 18:34 (UTC) (Link)
Especially since, before that point I think, Gibbs didn't show much emotion on his face.
